About

Every King & Commoner® (EK&C) is a multi- genre musical group established in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia (est. 2016). Band members include, Cody Christian (Lead Vocals, Guitar, Songwriter, Booking), Ben Mekkes (Piano, Keys, Synths, Production Manager), Andrew Frech (Bass, Guitar, Pads, Social, Head of Finance) and Yanni Allen (Drums, Social Media).

EK&C is known for their diverse sound, creative musicality and raw/energetic performances which won them the 2018 Shakarawka Battle of the Bands. EK&C have also shared stages with groups like Welshly Arms, The Sheep Dogs, Mac Powell, Matthew West and Lecrae. 

Ben Mekkes: "I live breath and will die music, it is hard to imagine this world without it. Making this all I do would be the dream of all dreams." Most influential bands: Glass Animals, Cage The Elephant, Mutemath and Always Bruno Mars. Day job: Music Teacher.

Cody West Christian: “People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.” Most influential band by far: NEEDTOBREATHE.

Andrew Frech: “I am constantly writing new musical material no matter where I am at (better hold the wheel if inspiration strikes). When I’m not in my studio, you can find me on one of the many social media accounts I operate.” Most influential band: Blink-182.

Yanni Allen: “I've been playing drums since I was two years old. I began drum lessons at age five at my hometown church, First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, Virginia. I knew right away that drumming was my passion. I grew up playing to my favorite artists: Yanni (the Greek musician), the Dave Matthews Band, Sadé, Carlos Santana, Peter Gabriel, Annie Lennox, Hootie and the Blowfish, to name a few.”
